The event that all Corrtech Group employees wait for with bated breath, the Corrtech Premier League, triumphantly returned for its fourth season this year.
It was held on 25th January, 2014 at Gopi Farms - Ahmedabad, and saw a remarkable improvement in the cricketing standards on display.
The first semifinal took place between Khele CP (CIPL - Cathodic Protection division) and Skids Scorpions (Control Plus Oil & Gas Solutions Pvt. Ltd); where Khele CP emerged winners, skillfully playing around the sting of the scorpions.
The second semifinal pitched the winner over the last three years-the Turbine Warriors (Corrtech Energy Limited) against the Pipeline Patriots (CIPL – Pipeline division). After a stirring contest, the Turbine warriors ensured that the desire of the Patriots to reach the final remained a pipe dream.
The grand finale pitted Khele CP versus the defending champions and favorites-the Turbine Warriors
The Turbine Warriors won the toss and chose to bat first. It was a gripping and nail biting match between the two best teams in the competition. The grind and hard work put in at the nets; were clearly evident in the game of Khele CP. As was their burning desire to create history. So while the Turbine Warriors set an extremely respectable total of 93 runs in 16 overs, Khele CP chased down the target with consummate ease in a mere 11.1 overs, with a staggering 9 wickets still intact. It was truly an emphatic win, which got the crowds musing, ‘Wah CP kya khele!’
From a competitive point of view, it was really a delight to see a new team break the dominance of the Turbine Warriors. And as Khele CP lifted the winner’s trophy, it was evident that the seeds for this triumph had been sown through their persistence and rigor over the last three years. Khele CP presented an inspiring case for ‘if at first one doesn’t succeed, you need to try again, and again, and again’
The standout performer in the competition was the brilliant Kalayrsam from Khele CP, who was awarded the trophy for the Best Player of the Tournament and the Highest Run Scorer. He scored a total of 126 eye catching runs in both the matches of the tournament and also remained not out.
Champak Mistry also from Khele CP, bagged the award for the Highest Wicket Taker. He was decisive in bagging 6 wickets, across both the matches of the tournament.
The Runner’s Up Trophy went to the Turbine Warriors.
However, all the other teams also played much better, than they had in the previous years. Both Pipeline Patriots and Skids Scorpions look poised to cause upsets the next year. And the Turbine Warriors will surely return with renewed vigor to reclaim their crown.
The spirit at the games was absolutely incredible. Every player in each unit went the extra mile for his team. And the sets of supporters also succeeded in creating a carnival like atmosphere, with the ensemble of whistles, bugles and drums; all adding a rhythm and energy to the proceedings. It was heartening to see how the players appreciated each other’s performances. It was fantastic to witness how the crowd erupted with cheers after a great stroke, or the fall of a wicket. It was an event, which helped nurture and foster team spirit and a sense of belonging at all levels. The delicious snacks and lunch that were served throughout the entire tournament, also truly ensured that this was a day of fun, enjoyment and laughter for all the employees across the group.
With such wonderful memories being created, one can hardly wait for CPL Season 5 in 2015. It is surely looking like it is going to be another blockbuster entertainer.
